Nelson Cable is a 2005 graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy and currently serves as a First Officer for a major U.S. legacy airline. At the Academy, he was an active member of the dinghy sailing team, skippering 420s and FJs in New England collegiate regattas, and participated extensively in offshore sailing aboard J-35s and the Academy’s Farr 40 Gem (USA95). His racing experience includes Block Island Race Week, the Around Block Island Race, Annapolis to Newport, and other Long Island Sound events, as well as multiple cadet programs aboard the tall ship Eagle.

Following graduation, Ensign Cable was assigned to USCGC Gallatin (WHEC-721) in Charleston, SC, earning both underway and in-port Officer of the Deck qualifications. While serving aboard, Nelson completed six Caribbean counter-narcotics patrols and supported Hurricane Katrina response operations. He was later selected for U.S. Navy flight training and flew the MH-65C/D Dolphin helicopter on search-and-rescue missions out of Air Station Savannah before joining Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron (HITRON) in Jacksonville, executing shipboard counter-drug operations. In his final Coast Guard assignment, Nelson served as a primary flight instructor flying the T-6 Texan II at Whiting Field. He retired in 2025 as a Lieutenant Commander after 20 years of service and joined his dream airline.

Nelson has sailed since childhood and developed a lifelong passion for multihulls after his family acquired a Pyramid Eagle Tramp trimaran. He later owned the Tramp himself, sailing it on Pensacola Bay during flight school. After moving to Gulf Breeze in 2016, he raced a Weta trimaran in multiple Weta Fest regattas and currently owns a Corsair F-24 Mk II, competing locally as time allows. Additionally, Nelson has bareboat charter experience aboard a Maine Cat 30 located in the Abacos and Seawind 1260 in the Florida Keys.

A new addition to the Windcraft team, Nelson brings strong operational experience, competitive racing, family sailing, and hands-on ownership knowledge to help clients select the right boat and the upgrades needed to achieve their sailing goals. Nelson and his wife, Laura, have four children together and enjoy living their best Gulf Coast life.
