Sailing has been a central part of Martin Robitaille’s life since childhood. It began cruising the St. Lawrence River and eventually evolved into a competitive career that took him racing around the world during seven years with the Canadian National Sailing Team. After multiple Olympic campaigns and a Junior Finn World Championship title, Martin was looking for a different way to stay deeply involved in sailing, one that could satisfy his love of performance while bringing back the simple pleasure of being on the water and sharing it with others.
Friends in the sailing community kept telling him about Dragonfly, eventually convincing him to visit the factory in Denmark, a trip he still considers one of the best decisions he has made. He immediately connected with the craftsmanship, performance and versatility of the boats, but also with the pride behind a family-owned company that has spent decades continuously refining what it builds. Dragonfly offered something Martin had been looking for: all the excitement of high-performance sailing, without the physical and mental exhaustion that can come with monohull or dinghy racing.
Martin later completed his degree in Mechanical Engineering while building his own sailing business. His involvement in the marine industry has since expanded to include new-boat sales, brokerage, demonstrations, commissioning, deliveries, technical support and, most importantly, time on the water with owners.
Over the years, the collaboration between the Canadian and U.S. Dragonfly representatives naturally grew closer. With a shared desire to better support sailors on both sides of the border, Martin joined the Windcraft team to strengthen that collaboration across Canada and the Pacific Northwest, combine experience and resources, and continue building a stronger multihull community together.
Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Martin deeply values the relationships that develop with owners. His goal is to turn uncertainty into clarity, share practical knowledge that makes sailing easier and more efficient, and understand what each owner truly wants from their boat. For some, that means satisfying the curiosity of a lifelong sailor who always wants to learn more. For others, it means spending the extra time needed to build the confidence and skills for a bigger adventure. Martin sees his role as being there throughout that journey, not simply for the purchase of the boat.
