Founder & Advisor

Don grew up in New Zealand, and inherited the DNA for sailing. He moved to the USA in 1979 to further his earlier career as a neuroscientist in Atlanta Georgia. Not to be deterred by this inland “posting” in 1993 Don and his wife Karlene bought their first trimaran, a Corsair F-27. because of its superb sailing performance and trailerability. For several years Don raced their F-27 locally on weekends, and towed it to sail in different areas in the SW USA whenever their children had a few days off school. School holidays would see the entire family headed to the Bahamas. With the Corsair F-27 it was possible to prepare and provision the boat in their driveway in Atlanta, hit the highway at the crack of dawn, and be sailing across the Gulf Stream to the Bahamas that night, arriving in the islands in time for lunch the next day!
In 1997 Don switched to the newer and sportier Corsair 28R and in 1998 assumed ownership of the local Corsair dealership, adopting the name Windcraft. In 2000 Don resigned his job as a mad scientist to concentrate on sailing and introducing others to the advantages and joys of trimarans. In 2002 Don moved his Corsair dealership to the Gulf Coast of Florida near Pensacola-Fort Walton Beach area where the waters are emerald green, the sand pure white, the winds are consistent and the sailing is fabulous. An ideal location for shallow draft boats such as trimarans and catamarans.
Over the years Don has personally owned, cruised and raced most of the models that Corsair has produced. Along the way he won his share of National Championships in the Corsair F-28R, Sprint 750 and Pulse 600 classes. So Don is familiar with the technical details and rigging of every Corsair model. Don has also crewed on larger ocean racing catamarans such as a Gunboat 66 and an Atlantic 55 and has been involved in the sale, commissioning and tuning of various models of Seawind Catamarans. Don believes in the performance, versatility and safety of the trimaran platform so it was a natural move around 2020 to add the high quality Danish built folding Dragonfly trimarans as well as the Rapido 40, 50 and 60 trimarans the to the range of exciting multihulls to offer customers. To reflect the nature of Windcraft’s offerings the name was changed to Windcraft Multihulls.
